Check to see if your districts AUP/RUP includes child safety and cyberbullying provisions.
It mentions that "cyberbullying" is not acceptable and will not be tolerated from either home or school and may result in suspension and/or expulsion.
Does it address copyright, plagiarism, and validity of resources?
I don't see anything with regards to the above.
Is the AUP/RUP proactive or reactive (positive or punitive)?
Our AUP/RUP is mostly punitive and reactive.
Does your district require parental signature for students to be able to utilize the Internet, or does it only require a signiture if parents do not wish their child to use the Internet?
Our district requires that both parents and students sign the AUP and return it directly to the school site.
How well is the RUP/AUP understood by teachers, students, and parents? Who is involved in revising the AUP/RUP (and the technology plan)? Are teachers, students, and parents included on the committee?
As I mentioned in my discussions, I don't think our AUP is read by parents or students. It has become just another document of many that parents must sign & return. The understanding or the AUP varies greatly amongst our staff as well.

I'm not sure who is in charge of revising the AUP/RUP? I know that our district has several teachers from each school site who are part of a newly formed technology team but I'm not sure if this is something they are tasked with revising.

As I watched the videos for Reading/Module 1 my first reaction was that all of this is purely common sense! Why do we need to be reminded that these aren't our home computers & that we're here to use technology to collaborate, share and support the educations of our students. DUH! Well, sadly we all need reminders even as adults of how to behave appropriately in the workplace and if we need reminders what about our students! They're just kids who need to be taught how to act and behave apprpriatly and their parents who are adults like us, need to be reminded and sometimes taught regarding the appropriate use of technology too. As we firmly plant ourselves in 21st century learning we all need to be reminded of the AUP's our district has put in place and with the advent of social networking it's even more important to be aware of internet safety and ettiquette.

1. I know that information with a copyright label and any direct copying of literature and music is in direct violation of copyright laws. I also know that I am not supposed to grab images from the internet to use in my presentations.
2. I’m teaching my students that copyright law is in place to protect other peoples work. I tell them it’s like stealing from them. When you copy a song illegally the artist does not get paid & that’s how they make their living.
3. I’m not sure if I’ve actually modeled correct use of copyright material. I’ve told my students that it’s not always ok to copy from Google images so that is why we use a site called Fliker (not sure of the spelling).
4. I observe violations and I’m sure I still do some myself. I often see copies run off at our school site that we clearly do not have permission from the source however, I think this is done purely out of ignorance. After the reading I am much more aware of this topic than I ever was before.
5. I think people violate copyright laws for two reasons. First, they are ignorant and unaware and secondly, they don’t care. There isn’t generally a lot of accountability for violations that people do every day (such as photo copying).
6. We have copyright laws to protect the people who create the product. This protection ensures material isn’t stolen from which they loose potential income and it also ensures that they have complete control over the use of their product or material.
